Marcus Claesson
Associate Professor in Bioinformatics at University College Cork
After chemical engineering and bioinformatics degrees at Chalmers University of Technology, Marcus completed his PhD and Postdocs at University College Cork on Lactobacillus genomics and age-related microbiomes. As Associate Professor at APC Microbiome Ireland, he now researches microbiota in IBD. Marcus is Programme Director of the MSc in Bioinformatics and recently chaired the COST Action ML4Microbiome. He is among the top 0.1% cited (globally ranked 164 in Microbiota 2025). He co-founded SeqBiome Ltd., where he is part-time Head of Bioinformatics.
